Another reason to love Ryn Weaver’s near-perfect pop song ‘Octahate’

Avatar

Before June, no one had heard of Ryn Weaver. But suddenly, the American singer was all over the blogs with her song ‘Octahate’ and subsequently her Promises EP.

It’s easy to hear why. Her music has a big attitude to it with current production techniques and the easy detection of the kind of honest drum-beating pop that the Scandinavians do so well.

‘Octahate’ is the pinnacle of her music so far. Featuring co-production from Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit, Benny Blanco, and Cashmere Cat, the track’s bright electronic-pop swing is a good tonic to reductive songs about big booties.

The video is on the same parallel, retro styles, painted faces, cute inner child, weird people in body suits and patterned outfits.
