Girls Names call it a day

Belfast rock band Girls Names have called time on the project.

The band who have been a going concern for 10 years and who’s music ranged from jangly indie pop to post-punk to alt-rock and everything in-between across four albums with a couple of lineup changes along the way posted this message to Insta.

So after a whole decade we’ve decided to call time on the band. It’s been some journey from absolutely nothing – literally absolutely nothing, no clue but naïvety, ignorance and some youthful idealism. But ten years is a long time to be neither here nor there.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who’s helped along the way and been part of it all – everyone who ever came to see us, bought a record, bought a tee, bought us dinner, reviewed us for good or bad, sold our records, booked us shows, gave us a bed for the night, danced with us, laughed with us and cried with us.

The band’s last record Stains On Silence was nominated for an NI Music Prize in 2018.

Members of the band will continue other projects as Gross Net, Bloodied Up and New Pagans.

Here’s a Spotify playlist of some of their discography highlights and you can buy their records on Bandcamp.
