Tiga’s ‘3 Rules’ is a snarky club jam from the Canadian’s recent album No Fantasy Required. I play it out a lot and it can mess with people in a nice way through the lyrics (“never dance with your hands up”) and the silent stop.
After the announcement yesterday of new music from Soulwax, the good news keeps on coming with 2ManyDJs and Tiga released this collaborative stripped-down remix of the track under their DeeWee label name.
“We just kept strippin’ it down until it was reduced to a pure energetic essence that only I could hear,” says Tiga. “I eventually agreed to add ‘music’ back into the mix so everyone could enjoy it as much as I did. And that to me is what music is all about: giving people something they can hear.”
The mix sat on a hard drive for months until one fateful night during the closing set of Tiga’s recent residency at XOYO:
“The track just seemed to call out to me. It said, ‘Hey man, try giving me a spin’, then ‘What do you have to lose?’, then ‘It’ll make a great story for the press release’, and finally ‘I am now lodged inside your head and I will not leave until you give me the kind of spin I rightly deserve.’ I don’t usually negotiate with terrorists, but I went for it and the crowd went full-on ape-nuts. Did the track then wink at me and disappear from the hard drive forever? That’s between me and the track and the hard drive, I’m afraid.”
2ManyDJs are very much back making and facilitating great dancefloor music.
With their new label DeeWee releasing tracks that are on point (Emmanuelle, Asa Moto, Phillipi & Rodrigo), their copresent with James Murphy at Despacio showcasing a different style of club, their Waffles edits, the Belgica soundtrack and their new Beats1 radio show, there’s a lot to take in.
The 2manyDJs brothers have been cranking up their output of late and there’s possibly a new Soulwax release on the way too.
When they’re not showing people what’s possible in club spaces with Despacio, they’ve recently been releasing some of my favourite music from Emmanuelle, Asa Moto, Phillipi & Rodrigo and a new Soulwax featuring Chloe Sevigny on their DeeWee label. Not to mention those Waffles edits, or the Belgica soundtrack where they made up fake Belgian bands and new songs which seem certain to be the Dewaele brother themselves.
For the first edition of their new Beats 1 radio show, the brothers put together two hour long mixes showcasing recent strands of what they’ve been up to. Hour 1 is all DeeWee releases while hour two is all Despacio edits.

A pretty cool addition to Electric Picnic anyone? Sounds like fun.

For the last two years, Soulwax/2ManyDJs have been releasing visual mixes on their Soulwax iOS/Android app featuring custom-made visual re-interpretations and recreations of the album artwork of each song currently playing.
Well they’ve hit the last chapter, and to round it all off they’ve released a visual mix of their seminal mix album As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt. 2. Nice thing for a Friday.
Soulwax’s new Radio Soulwax iPhone app might just one of the most impressive artist app you’ve ever seen. It’s certainly up there with Gwylim Gold’s Bronze – a whole new non-static music format in its creativity. Two and a half years in the making, the concept involves one-hour long visual mixes (eventually there will be 24) that come with custom-made visual re-interpretations and recreations of the album artwork of each song currently playing.
One mix will be revealed per week, the app is FREE and you can preview what a “mix” looks like below. The idea came about after they did a 2 Many DJs Introversy mix for the BBC consisting of 420 song intros (downloadable still).
The Dewaele Brothers took over Rob Da Bank’s show for two hours on Monday and being known for their eclectic mixes and deep knowledge of music of the last 35 years, they decided to take a different take on things. For the first hour, it was a non-stop intros round where they played the intros of 420 songs in a row. It sounds like they’re taking the piss but it’s a curious listen much like that hidden UNKLE track on Psyence Fiction (but that only had 58 songs so up yours Lavelle). The hour takes in all manner of popular music including Sebastien Tellier, Devo, Japan, Neil Young, Randy Crawford, Jape, Wings, Pivot, Donna Summer and roughly four hundred others.
The second hour sees them focus on disco tunes with the likes of Giorgio Moroder, In Flagranti, Tiga, Love Unlimited Orchestra and loads of others I’m not going to pretend I know. It’s a quality mix of course.
