Danger Doom’s The Mouse and The Mask, the 2005 collaborative album between MF Doom and producer Danger Mouse is getting a reissue in a 3-LP deluxe format.

I wrote about it 11 years ago. I’m old.

The original album was a successful collaboration which weaved interludes and inspiration from Adult Swim TV show characters like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Space Ghost, Harvey Birdman. Guests included Talib Kweli, Ghostface Killah, and Cee Lo Green.

The 3xLP vinyl remastered reissue courtesy of DOOM’s own label METALFACE Records has extra tracks and comes with the previously digital-only Occult Hymn EP and two more tracks, ‘Mad Nice’ featuring The Roots’ Black Thought & Vinny Price, one of which you can hear below.

Order it outside the US here but expect to pay customs on it.

Light Asylum
Every Friday, I pick out four great new music picks from the best of the music blogosphere as part of my Day & Night internet section. Follow Day & Night on Twitter or Facebook. It’s out today in print with every copy of the Irish Independent.

Light Asylum

Coming across like Devo in full ‘Whip It’ mode, the agitated wonky pop of ‘IPC’ from this Brooklyn via Berlin band’s (too much cool right?) Mexican Summer label debut is odd and compelling,

Chris Milk, the artist behind Arcade Fire’s Wilderness Downtown video is responsible for the new interactive video for ‘3 Dreams Of Black’, a song from Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi’s Rome album. The new video, produced in collaboration with “some friends at Google”, uses WebGL: a HTML5 canvas element that enables fancy 3D graphics basically. It looks phenomenal. To experience it you’ll need the latest version of Google Chrome.

A look at the technology behind it, examples and download the code base.

Perfect for parties then..

Danger Mouse put together a 170-song summer playlist for NY Mag’s Vulture blog.Nearly everyone you can think of is represented: Love, Stevie Wonder, Pavement, Neil Young, Mamas and Papas, Scott Walker, Super Furries, A Tribe Called Quest and lots, lots more.

I’ve created a Youtube playlist version of 147 of these songs.

Direct link on Youtube as sometimes the embed only shows 47 songs.

They are available on iTunes in the US from here or if you’ve Spotify, here.

Meanwhile, Dark Night of the Soul gets a proper CD release this month. Here’s my favourite tune from it – ‘Just War’ featuring Gruff Rhys. (more…)
