Electric Picnic added a new woods area today and it’s not quite a rave in the woods. Hazel Wood will focus on art and performance, particularly, “with a programme of mesmerising storytelling through interactive theatre, immersive hauntings, shadow puppetry, visual displays, commedia dell’arte workshops, visual art” and more.

Included in the programme is from a music perspective is:

  • Cathy Davey premiering her new album live at midnight on Friday in its entirety.
  • Generic People host: AFTER DARK in The HAZEL WOOD  featuring:
  • Jack O’Rourke, Exit Pursued By a Bear, Carried By Waves, MKAI, DJs Jim X Comet with his David Bowie Tribute set, and DJs Fish Go Deep and HomeBeat’s Emmet Condon.
  • Yurodny Ensemble leading a procession across the site.

Away from music, there is:

  • Audio/visual/orchestral extravaganza We Lived In Cities a collaboration by B.K. Pepper, Madra Mor Production & Generic People.
  • Interactive and experimental theatre from Footsbarn Travelling Theatre,
  • Twisted Tales hosted by The Gaiety School of Acting will be hosting a series of workshops and performances
  • The Lords of Strut; Brothers Seamus and Sean host their own fantastical TV show which results in slapstick mayhem.
  • Mary Mary is Púca Puppet’s oldest performer.
  • The Melting Pot ensemble orchestrated by Siobhra Quinlan – Opera, art song, instrumental and chamber music
  • Mask making workshops by Behind the Mask
  • Festive chic by  The Costume Mistress
  • Contribute to a commemorative Picnic quilt with Lucy’s Lounge.
  • Fossetts  circus.
  • live Shadow Puppetry by Javanese Gamelan in conjunction with The National Concert Hall.
