“List your favourite record from every year you’ve been alive.” This is probably the nerdiest thing I’ve ever done but it was an interesting exercise. The idea was taken from here, here and here. In order to help you pick your favourites, you can use the extensive Wikipedia pages, the critics list at Pazz &… Read more »

My laptop’s Christmas present from me was an impolite wine spillage on the keyboard resulting in a tedious copy and paste requirement job for some letters of the alphabet. So I will keep this in a brief list format. After this, I’m done with 2007 and making lists for another year. Thanks to all the… Read more »

Well its nearly the end of 2007 so I asked nialler if I could do another blog highlighting some albums that he missed or hadn’t time to cover over the year and he agreed (It was Christmas Eve so maybe he regrets that now). Anyway here are a few, in no particular order that I… Read more »

There were only ever four real contenders for this once the voting started. The top four albums below trail-blazed from day one and the others all languished behind. This year almost 200 of you voted for 61 different Irish albums with 354 votes counted in total. That’s three more albums than last year. This blogs… Read more »

I relish compiling lists. So much so that I ended up with a list of 75 songs from this year on a longlist. So for the sake of your attention-span and as recommendation reminders here are my top 25 songs of 2007. I’ll talk about the track when it warrants it or if I’ve talked… Read more »

The second annual nialler9 Irish album poll is back after last year’s success! 2006 saw Si Schroeder voted the best album by you guys and this year I’m extending the poll to include Irish EPs as there were many quality EP releases this year that deserve some love too. Thanks to everyone who voted this past week. In total we had 198 votes with 58 different Irish albums chosen. Sinéad has reliably informed me that there was 170 Irish albums released this year. The results are a little bit surprising due to the lack of mainstream and high profile acts. Where’s U2’s Singles Collection?… Read more »

10. Cut Chemist – The Audience’s Listening When Cut Chemist left Jurassic 5 earlier this year to concentrate on his solo material, I was hopeful but apprehensive that it wouldn’t retread on previous DJ mixes or solo material he had released. While Jurassic 5 released Feedback, arguably the blandest, radio-friendly hip hop album this year… Read more »

15. Nomo – New Tones The funkiest album on the list, Michigan-based Nomo take their cue from the Congolese band, Konono N°1, respectively appropriating their percussive tribal sound to the Northern Hemisphere. Extending that ethos with breakneck brass, organ and guitar to produce a post-Afrobeat sound – the songs on instrumental New Tones are refreshlingly… Read more »

So we’ve reached the end of the year and I thought it was time to reflect on what a great year 2005 was for music. Some of these releases were from 2004, but I only heard them this year, So that counts as 2005 for me. I’m offering every track here so you can see what I’m talking about. Download them, make a compilation, share it. I have to say without the fantastic music blogs out there, There is a lot of music on this list I would never have heard (and subsequently bought the CDS of). Hats off to music lovers. And now, on with the list.
