Three great DJs doing a B2B set at Optimo’s 20 party as the grand finale for an all-day event that had a hefty lineup. This is my kind of set featuring LCD Soundsystem’s Lindstrom Tribulations mix, Moda’s ‘Retro & Grade’, Giorgio Moroder, Margarida and many more including that Optimo favourite – Madonna’s ‘Hung Up’. Dig… Read more »

The EP is released on Sligo label Art… Read more »

Bicep, Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson are gearing up to release their debut album on Ninja Tune next month. We’ve heard the excellent ‘Aura’ from the album and seen the tracklisting. ‘Glue’, the duo’s followup preview is a less dancefloor-focused but a shimmering slice of electronica. Bicep is out on September 1st. Bicep are at… Read more »

One of my favourite new artists of the last few years, Kelela has returned with new music. ‘LMK’, which stands for “Let me Know” restablishes Kelela’s clubby R&B sound as heard on Cut 4 Me mixtape and Hallucinogen EP. It’s taken from her album Take Me Apart out on October 6th on Warp Records. ‘Rewind’… Read more »

Monaghan three-piece Sun.Set.Ships are an electronic live band with pop sensibilities who will follow up their debut single and EP with ‘D_lay’, which is out on Friday. The band suggest the song has elements of the xx and The Police but I reckon the track is less tied to obvious influences – moving between Balaeric… Read more »

I’ve covered Orange Tree’s first two releases here earlier this year but the success of the just-released third 12″ in the series from the Dublin label is worth noting because a) it’s currently top of the Juno chart in all genres and b) it has two grade A dancefloor bangers that people are really responding… Read more »

A new video for a highlight from David Kitt’s New Jackson album, which is one of my albums of 2017 so far. The video features 500 paintings by Galway artist Finbar 247 which were then animated by art art director Brett O’Mahony to match the track. Needless to say, it was a lengthy process.

1000 Beasts is a new project by Cian Sweeney, who is a freelance musician, pianist and producer who has recently worked with Jenny Greene & The RTE Concert Orchestra and Phil Coulter. 1000 Beasts is less a classical project and more of an intriguing electro-pop one with the idea being that each song in the… Read more »

The Dublin electro three-piece Sleep Thieves have been quiet the last while since 2014’s full-length You Want The Night but their pulsating synthesiser electronica is very much in tact with their returning track ‘Is This Ready?’. The song has the foreboding noir atmospherics of their established work with vocalist Sorcha Brennan at her most dramatic…. Read more »
