Drop Everything is a contemporary cultural biennial happening on Inis Oírr on the smallest of the Aran Islands in just under two weeks from May 27th to 29th. Expect music, talks, installations, screenings, food, DJ sets and
impromptu happenings.
2014’s event was one of the best weekends I’ve ever had so it’s highly recommended.
Organiser Mary Nally has teased some of the acts playing this third edition but here some of them are in legit form (among others to be revealed on the island)::
Music
New York’s Zebra Katz, who will play a midnight show in the local school hall.
Manchester’s pop trio Ménage à Trois
Reykjavík’s Mr. Silla
Visual art
Visual art exhibits feature work from Finnish photographer Maria Lax and Ireland’s Andrew Nuding. The island’s indoor handball alley will be turned into an immersive installation by light artist Chris Lunney. She has also commissioned a site specific sauna by upcoming Irish architect Emmett McNamara and an event ‘at sea’ curated by director Dave Tynan featuring some of Ireland’s best young contemporary writers notably Emmet Kirwan.
Tickets
DE12 & DE14 were entirely crowd-funded, with organisers, crew and artists donating their time and talents pro bono. In keeping with that ethos, and ensuring the audience understanding of the event this year the event is by request only and limited to 300 places, guests are encouraged pre-register for access via the eventbrite page / and to contribute what they can afford.
