The evolution of FKA Twigs’ style continues with a self-directed video for a new track ‘Glass & Patron’ for a new song featuring voguing in a forest and some strong pregnancy imagery.

The song is from an EP coming later in the year. The video was directed and choreographed by her as part of the 2015 YouTube Music Awards.

My fellow Irish music blogger and Newbridge man Barry Gruff has put together GruffWuff, a 19-track compilation of new and unreleased music to celebrate his 5 years writing about music on his blog.

GruffWuff features music from Anderson, SertOne, Oh Boland, Monto, The Expert, Captain Moonlight, Knoxville Morning and more. It’s a good overview of the kind of music Barry likes. He has a predilection for ’90s-sounding indie and alternative music with an emphasis on Welsh music so that explains the addition of Mr Huw. Here’s to another 5 years!

“Initially I thought an idea like this was just a pipe dream but the enthusiasm that met my initial inquiries bowled me over, I couldn’t believe how eager everyone was to get involved. Blogging has become quite a big part of my life over the past number of years and I wanted to do something really special to mark the occasion, and I think with ‘GruffWuff’, that has been achieved”. Adding “It’s been curated and compiled by myself and Stephen Connelly. The thinking behind the project was pretty simple; we wanted to shine a light, brief as it may be, on some of the acts that have lit up the blog over the past few years.”

GruffWuff is out now on Bandcamp for name your price fee.

Limerick’s MynameisjOhn, God Knows and MuRli return under one name – Rusangano  Family, after a year that has given us an album I named my favourite Irish album of 2014 and Murli’s recent EP, support slots with Run The Jewels, and Snoop Dogg.

Their new name gives them a new focus but the tunes remain as good as ever, New track ‘Wasteman’ advocates being sound above all else.

GO TEAM The Scene Between album cover

The Go! Team’s fourth album is a recalibration and a return to the band’s first album Thunder, Lightning, Strike, when Ian Parton was the sole creative member of the band, constructing polychromatic pop, indie-lo-fi and singalong cheerleader-style choruses before bringing in a live band to make it a reality.

The Scene Between returns to that first album’s bockety thrill, a sense-filled collision between music styles that has become The Go! Team’s inimitable style.

In place of the voice of long-time voices of the band Ninja, Kaori Tsuchida and Chi Fukami Taylor; who have moved on in their lives and in music, are a whole coterie of new, unknown ones like London Africa Gospel Choir, Glockabelle (France), Emily Reo (USA), Samira Winter (Brazil), Atom (China), Casey Sowa (USA), Doreen Kirchner (US), and more from around the world.

Ian Parton employed four rules before in its making:
    1) melody would guide the song
    2) samples would be treated as an instrument rather than a basis for the song
    3) the production would vary across the song like flipping the dial on a radio
    4) the singers must all be people he’d never previously heard of.

The result is a recognisable album by The Go! Team but with fresh sounds and a renewed focus on the voice. Listen to the first Irish stream of the album below. It’s released on March 27th on Memphis Industries.

If you’d like to win a signed vinyl copy of the album out on that date then leave a comment below with your favourite Go! Team song or experience.
