Gogol Bordello are a Gypsy punk band made up of Eastern European immigrants now living in New York City. Their singer Ukrainian immigrant Eugene Hütz recently played the role of the translator in the movie version of Everything is Illuminated. A fitting description used to describe them from Jools Holland’s show on BBC is “The Pogues and the Clash having a fight in Eastern Europe”. Perfect.
Thanks to Gav’s recommendation I checked out Gogol Bordello on Jools and was impressed. Frenetic and fun, this is the kind of music that would be great at a festival, perhaps one that is on at the start of September in Stradbally. I’ll keep my fingers crossed as they are playing the Reading and Leeds festivals on the 25th and 26th of August respectively, so it would just be a short hop over to Ireland a few days later.
