Jacques Greene – Ready EP

Jacques Greene’s production cred continues to rise. The 21 year-old Montreal man’s work on the Concealer EP (on which this blissful nine minute song exists) earlier in the year, an association with Azealia Banks (he’s in the 212 vid), some impressive live shows with actual analogue equipment and his latest Ready EP on Martyn’s 3024 label is out this week.

With three consistently strong tracks over six minutes each, each evokes something classic in dance music as a whole while maintaining a future feel. ‘Ready’ is a rippling synth-based hold and release techno number with ebb and flow; ‘Prism’ sounds like Greene’s attempt at rework of the sunny trance grooves of Oni Ayhun’s ‘OAR003-B’ and succeeds, intentionally or not and the digital-only track ‘Dakou’ is an acid-inflected garage and R&B vocal cut, closer to Greene’s signature sound than the other two tracks.

The Ready EP is out now via Boomkat and iTunes for starters. Meanwhile, Koreless’ ‘Lost In Tokyo’ is out on Greene’s VASE label this week too.
