Kendrick Lamar is back with a new single ‘i’ with production from Rahki. The song is built on a sample of the Isley Brothers’ ‘Who’s That Lady’, which is familiar to me and thousands of others as a sample in Beastie Boys’ ‘B-Boy Bouillabaisse’ from Paul’s Boutique, a classic.
The soul-flip means that the song is much more upbeat and funkier than most of Lamar’s recent 2012 album good Kid, m.A.A.d. City, though it does share the funk-bass commonality wih Kendrick’s recent appearance on Flying Lotus’ ‘Never Catch Me’.
