Big Boi’s upcoming Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumors will feature some fine plinking plonking from Sweden’s Little Dragon. Here’s a live preview of ‘Mama Told Me’. Reaaal nice. Previously we heard ‘Gossip’.
After two years of missing the festival, I finally made it down to one day at Body & Soul in Co. Westmeath over the weekend. Luck was on my side as I could only make Sunday which turned out to be the sunny day. Weather was something I noticed Body & Soul had going for it in its two years so far with previous weekends seeing scorchers so it seems luck and good calendar timing is also something the festival has going for it. Taken from SBTRKT’s forthcoming Young Turks debut album on June 24th comes this squelching dub number featuring Little Dragon’s Yukimi Nagano. It’s hard to tell if the rest of the band are involved but it’s been billed as such.
Oh yeh it’s pronounced “subtract” just in case you didn’t cop it.
The weird world of Unknown Mortal Orchestra is a heady trip into psychedelic and lo-fi experimentation. Like Javelin’s enjoyable all-over-the-shop album No Más, the Portland-based band led by Kiwi Ruben Nielsen have an adept knowledge of pop hooks and melodies that pierce your consciousness regardless of what else is going on. Whether it’s the Beatles-esque guitar style of ‘Thought Ballune’, the Bibio-esque lo-fi bass-funk of ‘How Can U Luv Me’ or the distorted psych-rock of ‘Ffunny Ffrends’ and ‘Nerve Damage!’, their debut self-titled EP on The Sounds Of Sweet Nothing is worth picking up if you can find a copy. A debut LP is coming on Fat Possum in June.
