the cast of cheers for the ticket

The Cast Of Cheers woke up in their new London house over the weekend to find that some of their equipment was stolen. Having just moved in a couple of weeks, the band were not yet covered by insurance so it’s a pretty shitty loss. The band were due to record their second album in a couple of weeks and they are no without money to replace the gear which included a Macbook Pro, a whammy pedal, a Korg keyboard and a Line6 – M13 (info and pics).

As the band offered their debut album for free, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to donate some money via Paypal to their situation. Alternatively, look out for the gear being sold on eBay or in the London area.

Hard Working Class Heroes kicks off on Thursday 7th October until Saturday 9th October and features over 100 Irish bands performing in 6 venues as well as mid-day gigs, a photography exhibition, speed-mentoring and panels.

This year, Nialler9 will be going head to head against Jim Carroll On The Record with a ‘versus’ night in The Workman’s Club on Saturday 9th of October. We’ve each picked three bands each and the lineup came out as: We Are Losers, Squarehead, Jennifer Evans & The Ripe Intent, Strait Laces, Trophy Boyfriend and The Cast of Cheers. Should be fun.

Other Vs. nights include Any Other City vs. Richter Collective, the State vs AU Club and Today FM (Paul McLoone) vs 2FM (Jenny Huston). Tickets are €45.00 for the weekend plus fees and nightly Tickets are €20 plus fees.

Get the spreadsheet stage times (or from the site) and brush up on your listening homework.

girls names

girls names All this week, there will be guest posts from various people involved in different strands of Irish music – record shop owners, writers, bloggers, promoters, radio presenters, bands and more, telling us what Irish bands or artists they are really into right now.

Una Mullally journalist with the Sunday Tribune, presenter of TG4’s music show (2nd series forthcoming) Ceol Ar An Imeall and club promoter for Soundcheck every Thursday, tells us what Irish music is doing it for her at the moment.

1. The Cast of Cheers

It’s hard to typify the emergence of Irish sometimes instrumental or mathy or experimental post-rock or whatever-you-want-to-call-it bands as some kind of scene considering they come from all over the country, and now for The Cast of Cheers to add their jittery, complex and sometimes chirpy brand of that noise to the cacophony.

Ellie and Louise McNamara are Heathers . Recently, the placement of ‘Remember When?’ on a Bord Failte ad has seen them appear on the Late Late and secure a marketing and distribution deal with Warners Ireland. They have just re-released their brilliant debut album Here Not There which you can buy here.

Words can’t describe these guys. Just pure brilliance! They never ever fail to amaze.

Kyp, of Rain Machine and TV On The Radio kindly came along and played a four songs at State’s Love:Live Music Day in the Mercantile on Friday night. He was a late addition to our first proper State gig in Dublin city which couldn’t have gone much better. Super Extra Bonus Party tore the roof off as usual and had the floor bouncing with May Kay special guesting on ‘Eamon’ and The Cast of Cheers played a brilliant set as ever (Kyp was a big admirer of both bands) and I heard good things about Take The Money & Run. Stay tuned for more FREE events happening soon. We were delighted with this one.
