Remember when Russia used to be the mortal enemy of the west and now US and Russian presidents are sleepover-buddies? It’s all a bit ‘Animal Farm’, isnt it?

Kevin Brannigan and ‘David Thomas Smith made this Russia-related video for Stefan Murphy’s new project Count Vaseline which feels extremely pertinent right now. It’s taken from the album Cascade.

Stefan Murphy was the driving force behind the Mighty Stef band until May when the band closed the journey.

Count Vaseline is the newest project from Stef and there’s already an LP called Yo No Soy Marinero ready to go on September 30th on his own imprint OCD-Tapes [Olive-Color-Dream-Tapes] on cassette and digital.

The project is more DIY and will feature a constant output in coming months. ‘Sleep / Weep’ from the record is in his words “a narco-pop lullaby sung” and one of the cosier songs recorded in Berlin with Gerrit Haasler for the record. Other songs were recorded in Atlanta and Dublin.

Pre-order on Bandcamp.

‘I’m gonna write a sleep melody
a song that I can sing in my own company
