Dublin-based five-piece Cable Boy release their debut album Forever on April 17th.
A new single ‘Something In My Head’ is out today.
Forever was produced by Cable Boy with Adam Shanahan and Tandem Felix’ David Tapley, and finds the band moving slightly away from their earlier dreamy indie sound into a “goth disco” thing with fuzzy guitars, shoegaze heard on the track, with the album featuring surf pop sounds, power-pop, and jangle sounds.
‘Something In My Head’ is concerned “with survival, emotional detachment and the violence of repetition,” and is a forthright alternative rocker with urgent guitars and foggy sonics.
“Something in my Head is about watching and absorbing life changing news and several atrocities everyday on every single social media app and feed while feeling powerless to do anything but watch donate and boycott.
The chorus is a response to the verse; ‘I can be cool just where I am, weather is cooler where I stand, keeping it cool, that’s who I am’ is a tongue in cheek comment on how we absorb these things as artists; being aware but also not really doing anything.”
Previous “goth disco single ‘Purple’ also features on the record.
About Cable Boy
Cable Boy by school friends Semilore Olusa and Liam Murrayand released their debut EP WHOLE in 2019. The post-2020 era marked a creative shift, with the addition of Corneille Tshibasu, Jason Aikhionbare, and Fionn McLoughlin, pushing the band toward a heavier, shoegaze-leaning hybrid sound they’ve dubbed goth disco.
