A fundraising gig will be held this Friday in Limerick for the Activist Solidarity Fund, in support of the ‘Shannon Three’, who are in court for direct action at Shannon Airport in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
Folk multi-instrumentalist John Francis Flynn, The Continuity Céilí Band, Limerick hip-hop artist Jordan Kelly, and DJ Dónal Dineen are billed for the US Military Out of Shannon fundraiser, this Friday, February 13th, in Pharmacia.
Fundraiser for the Activist Solidarity Fund, to support those in Ennis Court for direct action at Shannon Airport in protest of international military use in a neutral country and in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
This week, the trial of three activists charged in relation to an action at Shannon Airport in March 2024 was adjourned pending the determination of a forthcoming Supreme Court appeal in a separate case at Shannon Airport.
The action of the Shannon Three (Áine Ní Thréinir, Aindriú de Buitléir, and Eimear Walshe) involved demanding the inspection of US military aircraft en route to support what the Irish government has recognised as a genocide in Gaza.
The Supreme Court appeal arises from a 2023 trespass conviction related to a direct action at Shannon Airport. It will examine whether the defence of necessity can apply to such trespass charges, with the outcome likely to have direct implications for the Shannon Three.
De Buitléir, Ní Thréinir, and Walshe have been on bail for 22 months since their arrest. Their trial will be rescheduled pending the result of the forthcoming Supreme Court appeal.
Tickets for the fundraiser cost €20 and can be found here. If you can’t make the event, you can donate to the Activist Solidarity Fund here.
A Shannonwatch Vigil will also take place at Shannon Airport on Sunday, February 15th.
