The first three episodes were filmed in Dick Mack’s Pub in Dingle.
Art to Art is a new video series where “two artists sit down for a conversation to reflect, critique and promote each other’s art”.
It’s the brainchild of Rebecca Breene and Daniel Breene, who formed the idea working in a now forcibly-closed Dublin creative studio (as happens to so many of them).
The first episode is an engaging chat between Iona Lynch of Cliffords and Paul Banks of Madra Salach, and was shot in Dick Mack’s in Dingle.
(Episode 1) Paul Banks of Madra Salach and Iona Lynch of Cliffords
Other episodes shot in Dingle will feature Jonny Pickett of Dug and Joshua Burnside (Episode 2) and Conor O’Reilly of Dug and Kate Gurren of And He, The Fool and Music Video Producer (Episode 3).
The Big Romance is also a venue used for the series.
All full length episodes will be available to watch on Art to Art’s YouTube Channel.
Here’s the blurb from Art To Art
With all eyes on Ireland as an entertainment exporter across the globe, there is endless amounts of content and projections being placed on Irish artists. Art to Art offers a refreshing alternative to this, as the series shifts focus away from surface-level chatter about chicken fillet roll orders and leans in to the reality of being an artist in Ireland. The inner workings of their creative process, where they pull inspiration from, their beliefs and experiences – the aforementioned string between their life and the art they creative, whatever format that may be.
The conversations that arise during this series are pure, full of storytelling, creative curiosity and full of nuance and humour.
The series also aims to provide a platform to showcase various forms of art (not just music), even though the first three episodes are musicians. The goal is to eventually have painters talking to poets, directors talking to musicians, fashion designers talking to dancers, and so on.
All that is asked of those who participate is to provide some of their own art, art that inspired them and an idea they’ve recently written down in their notes app. These are then shared with the person they’re paired with, and both artists are asked to review each others “Artist Picks” ahead of their chat.
“It’s an idea I’ve been sitting on for two years. I knew it would happen once the time was right and I was in the right place at the right time, so I’m really glad to finally put this out in to the world. There was a certain magic in the room that I could feel at points during every episode of filming, and I hope that translates to the audience too.”
Rebecca Breene McDonnell, Creator and Producer of Art to Art.
