New Adebisi Shank – ‘International Dreambeat’

adebisi shank 2

Taken from their second album This Is The Second Album Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank (well.. what else did you think it was going to be called?), ‘International Dreambeat’ is the sound of rainbows played on guitars. It’s the theme tune to the inside of Lar, Mick and Vinny’s brain and it kicks off the album in perfect fashion. You can just see the confetti, the parades and crazy Japanese manga characters. Something like this?

The 40-minute album certainly is steeped in Japanese influence from the band’s three tours there. It’s a dizzying album of mostly instrumental music, not really a rock album as such, as the first album was. It’s more varied and sounds like nothing anybody else is doing anywhere. Vocoders, synths, marimbas, guitar riffs that would be comfortable soundtracking a level on a vintage platform game, big drums and even some ’80s basslines. Guests include Conor O’ Brien from Villagers who provides vocals on ‘Europa’ and Jape plays synths on the last track ‘Century City’. The album is released August 20th on The Richter Collective in Ireland, BSM Records in UK and in October on Parabolica Records in Japan. The band have tour dates starting this weekend, listed after the jump.

    1. The album was produced by the band and Stephen J. Caffrey and recorded in different locations around Ireland it was Mixed and Mastered by TJ Lipple in his home in Washington.

  1. The artwork looks great. The song appears to be unavailable. I think we can imagine… Frantic drums bass and guitars. No real soul but a bit of crack for the drunken masses. They sound perfectly Richter Collective.

  2. Thanks for info Nialler.

I don’t know. I hate to use the words ‘chiptune’ and ‘Muse’ but I’m at a bit of a loss to be honest.

  3. Loved the first album and EP, thought it was all really catchy and in a word, bopping. Glad to see the guys throwing us a follow-up fairly promptly.

The track caught me a bit off guard. The song structure is a bit more formulaic than I’d expected and the mad new sounds were a surprise, but that’s cool. It’s new material, and I like the band so I’ll give it a few listens and I’m sure it’ll grow on me. They still have the great other recordings so I’ll still be listening to them for a while yet.

  4. I’d love the tune if it wasn’t Shank.. if that makes any sense?!
    I feel that it’s a bit.. linear..
Great effort all the same. Love the tones.
    Looking forward to the album.

  5. think this is trying too hard, 80s tron graphic and hipsters zebra tee shirt image. like the track though, brave. better that their usual.
