SOME INFORMATION ON DOMESTIC ABUSE IN IRELAND:
The alarming numbers
There are 2 million women over the age of 15 in Ireland.
A quarter of them – 500,000 women – will face coercive control, physical, sexual, emotional or economic abuse from a current or former partner.
9 in 10 women* who have died violently in Ireland have been killed by a man they knew. Over half* were killed by an intimate partner or ex-partner.
Every 5 minutes someone reaches out to Women’s Aid for information and support.
Every woman should have the right to live free from fear and to be safe. Women’s Aid exists to create an equal Ireland with zero tolerance of domestic abuse, and all forms of violence against women. Everyone has a vital role to play in creating the fundamental social change needed across society to achieve this. Only then will our sisters, daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters not have to endure the pain and suffering of abuse. Support Women’s Aid to end violence against women.
