AE MAK (Aoife McCann) joins Crash Ensemble for a one-night-only performance at the National Concert Hall’s Studio on Friday November 13th, presented by Crash Ensemble and the NCH.

The album is a “cosmical, spiritual folk record rooted in voice, breath and emotional resonance”, influenced by Björk, Judee Sill, Aldous Harding and Paul Simon and named in reference to her own parents.
The emphasis on the voice is what’s immediately apparently on Folk Songs.., no big surprise considering how individually magnetic McCann’s voice has been no matter what tapestry it is woven to. Folk Songs for Mama & Papa draws on the warmth of classic folk and baroque pop.
Written during a period of heartbreak and self-questioning, the songs land somewhere hopeful despite that, filled with humour and devotion alongside the vulnerability, built around the idea that we’re not alone in it, “we came from the stars, you see.”
The performance is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and Dublin City Council.
