New Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero

zero

From the forthcoming album It’s Blitz! out in April, comes a fresh sounding Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This is one of those songs that it’s probably best not to share your first impressions straight away in case you renege soon afterwards but, i’m going to say – this is nice but not YYYs nice. Dance and disco is favoured over freneticism and guitar. Is this one of those songs debuted before the album release which sounds nothing like the album?

  1. I like this. A completely new direction for the YYY crew for sure. Lots of synths and guitars low in the mix(apart from the outro) which is unusual as Nick is quite the brilliant guitarist. This song is not blowing my brain apart though as I hoped it would. Not terrible, not brilliant, just good.

  2. Bit disappointed really; the YYYs have been have always sounded very striking and brash… this sounds like a bit like another unremarkable goldfrapp/ladyhawke type thing

I’m all for a band changing it up but it’s a shame if they ditch what made them unique; namely the vocal storm of yelps and hollers of Karen O.

The album is probably set to leak soon enough; I’m hoping it’s not all as subtle as this strikes me
