Video: M.I.A. – ‘Born Free’

Nine minutes long, explicit, violent, graphic, politically-charged and directed by Romain Gavras (who directed Justice’s ‘Stress‘.) The tune samples Suicide’s ‘Ghost Rider’.

  1. the edit of the song in the video definitely takes the emphasis off the song, but the actual album mix is quite savage. I can’t tell if this video is trying to generate controversy to sell her record, or if she’s trying to undermine her own fame by trying to make herself less accessible. (gingersplosions, sampling suicide, kinda ambient vocals)
Certainly underlines her criticism of lady gaga
