Our first Loose Joints Podcast of the year with your hosts Nialler9 and Sally Cinnamon is here. Loose Joints is a podcast where the two of us talk to a guest about the music they love: old and new, and play some of those tunes.
The podcast, true to the name features a loose collection of tunes, tied together by little logic, just like our chats which this month included a long conversation about how great Myspace was, why school should teach you how to do your taxes, the pleasure of browsing a record shop, under-rated Irish bands of recent years, getting back into guitars by going to raves and the reality of being in a band in 2017.

Side A of the new 12″ from Dublin’s Thread Pulls is a richly percussive and minimal new song ‘You Melt Words’, taking the idea of live dub rhythms into an art-rock context. It was recorded with producer David Donohoe over two weeks in a Dublin basement city centre studio. The two songs were made with vinyl in mind. It’s released on CF Records on 100 white label 12″s b/w ‘5/8 Rhythm Here’ on October 22nd. Preorder.
The sound that Thread Pulls have crafted on their debut album New Thoughts is motorik, minimalistic and mantric. Built on a foundation of repetitious drum hits and bass notes, this basis allows Gavin Duffy and Peter Maybury to employ the use of ambient drones, seemingly free-form vocals, unconventional instrumentation and extra percussion. It’s a record you let seep into you. Sample three tracks from the record below.
Thread Pulls’ album launch party takes place this Friday in The Workman’s Club with support from Logikparty & DJ Monty (Roller/Sparkers). Tickets are €12.50. New Thoughts is released through Osaka Records.
DEAF are kicking things off a little early this year with a fundraising event on the 21st of August in Meeting House Square (which will have a temporary roof & full bar for evening – let’s hope that addresses the sound issues.) Tickets are €10 from tickets.ie and in the shops below from Friday.
