Dublin band For Nina share superb new song ‘Swallow’

The Dublin three-piece of For Nina release their sixth single, after ‘Hounds’ and ‘Low’ earlier this year.

‘Swallow’, the band’s latest single adds a soft rock melancholy to their sound on a song about self-sabotage and not speaking out – it was a song written by singer Holly Owens in secondary school that the band rediscovered recently.

“Holly wrote the guts of the song years ago, back when she was in secondary school, and it got completely lost in the drafts. We stumbled across it sitting at home one night and heard this crazy potential from the chorus, gave it a new format and first verse and we were flying from there. We only started playing it a couple months ago, but from the first time we played it in a live set we knew it was sparkling in a different way to some of our other songs.”

It reminds me of a shoegazey take on Wolf Alice.

For Nina, Delivery Service and Stella and the Dreaming play the Grand Social Ballroom on July 8th.

For Nina are:

Holly Owens – guitar, vocals
Ben Watson – guitar
Max Kaye – drums
