Rumours started when the band’s gear was spotted in the West Kerry town on Saturday afternoon.
The band then announced an 800-cap Dublin gig tonight at The Academy (along with Manchester and London shows) at two hours notice for which tickets were only available in person at 3Olympia Theatre.
It turns out the Foo Fighters show was last night, Sunday, in St. James Church and was recorded for an Other Voices televised performance – the TV series schedule for series 24 of OV was announced and kicks off this week.
No official word yet from Other Voices about the appearance, but series 24 was recorded from October to December, so I’d imagine this will be a Foo Fighters special broadcast, possibly to mark Other Voices’ 25th year after this current series.
The Irish Times’ Patrick Freyne was in attendance at the Foo show in Dingle last night, writing a report from the 80 capacity Church where the band rocked out a 12-song hit-filled set that kicked off with ‘A320’ a rarely-played song from the 1998 Godzilla soundtrack and featured singalongs to ‘My Hero’ with Dave Grohl stalking the small audience, ‘All My Life’, ‘Learn To Fly’, ‘Everlong’ and more as listed.

The show was apparently the result of Foo Fighters manager calling Other Voices’ Philip King to record and film the show. To which King said: “You know it only seats around 80 people?”

Kerry Airport also put out a post about the band arriving, and Geaney’s Bar was teasing it yesterday morning.
Of course, those familiar with the band’s lore will know the story of Dave Grohl visiting the Ring Of Kerry in the nineties after Kurt Cobain died. The story goes that Grohl was spotted by a young hitchhiker who was wearing a Kurt t-shirt and Grohl realised he couldn’t escape his past and went on to start the Foo Fighters.
