Here are the 10 Irish acts heading to SXSW in Texas this year

Update: All of the artists listed below have now cancelled in protest.

The annual South By Southwest Festival takes place in Austin, Texas from March 8-16th and is the likely world’s biggest showcase of new music, where thousands of bands from all over the world travel to be in Austin around Patrick’s Day.


This year, 11 acts from Ireland are going to the festival to play and showcase. They are:

Update: Seven of the 10 Irish acts have now cancelled their show due to military sponsorship.

Of the Northern Irish contingent (who get separate UK Funding), Enola Gay have also cancelled.

Galway singer-songwriter Sean Vaughan, who got in touch is also participating at SXSW but not under the official Culture Ireland / Music From Ireland funding.

Music From Ireland Official Showcases


Music from Ireland
, the Irish Music Export Office, will present and produce one showcase and one day show this year.

The MFI official showcase will take place at the Velveeta Room on Thursday 14th from 20.00. The Full Irish Breakfast day show will take place on Friday 15th at Flamingo Cantina from 12.00.

As Music from Ireland, the Irish Music Export Office, we will be presenting and producing one showcase and one day show again this year.

The MFI official showcase will take place at the Velveeta Room on Thursday 14th March from 8pm featuring 6 of the acts:

MFI Showcase

Cardinals / Gurriers / Kneecap / Mick Flannery / NewDad / Soda Blonde

The Full Irish Breakfast day show will then take place on Friday 15th March at Flamingo Cantina from noon featuring all 10 bands.
