Jean Pack is a solo project from a member of The Cork ‘experimental no-wave bitch-punk’ five-piece.

‘Ruby’ is the debut single from the project, the sort of ’60s throwback girl-group indie single that sounds like it should belong in a 7″ record.

The song is the first off a debut EP called Allora due on July 25th, and it was recorded with Caoilian Sherlock (Jackie Deluxe, The Shaker Hymn, The Tan Jackets) at Big Child Studios in Cork.

Influences cited include Nancy & Lee, The Raincoats, and The Velvet Underground.

Pack says of the song:

“There are four precious stones – diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds – each with its own unique chemistry. Rubies, in particular, often carry inclusions – flaws formed naturally over time.”

Pressure may make diamonds.

But what shapes us?

Jean Pack recently supported her main band at the band’s Dublin date in Bello Bar, and supported Cork band Pebbleband on tour last year.

Jean Pack says Allora is “a dirty aperitif with the first pint of the night”.

A live gig takes place in Cork with Jean Pack performing with her band the Slay Babies at Dali, Cork on June 6th – the first full performance of Allora, with support from Moleman and A.C. Bergermann.
