Maniac 2000 to celebrated for 25 years as an Irish pop banger at a 3Arena gig
The Irish dance music classic and cultural landmark ‘Maniac 2000’ is to be a centrepiece at a new gig marking 25 years of the beloved song.
There’s nothing more Irish than a DJ / MC singing over a rework of Michael Sembello’s 80s classic ‘Maniac‘ in a cricket club in Clontarf.
The version Mark McCabe sings that everyone knows makes use of 4Rhythm’s (Simon Fitzpatrick and Tim Hannigan) 1995 track ‘Maniac (Sound Crowd Remix)’.
The song was huge, keeping off Alice Deejay’s ‘Better Off Alone’ from the number one spot as it dominated music charts in Europe. ‘Maniac 2000’ remained an Ireland only hit, a distinctly Emerald dance pop class.
Next year, Mark McCabe along with The Big Day Out is presenting Maniac 25, a gig at the 3Arena featuring a performance from Mark, along with 1990s/ 2000s dance pop acts: SNAP!, Safri Duo, Cascada, B’Witched, Alice Deejay, N-Trance and Ultrabeat.
The show takes place at 3Arena in Dublin on the day before St. Patrick’s Day, March 16th 2025.
