mischa and the bear – ‘Get Away’

The Dublin duo mischa and the bear – ‘Get Away’ really impressed me with their debut single ‘Deny’ which channelled Crystal Castles-esque electro synth hyperpop.

‘Get Away’, the followup single from producer/bassist Mischa (Danny Rooney ex-modernlove) and vocalist Bear (Fírinne McIntyre) leans into twinkling arpeggiated synth pop.

The song’s lyrical sentiment about being emotionally trapped under the “psychological weight of grief, the questions that accompany it, and the struggle to process the aftermath alone”, with the Bear’s sweet vocal suggesting a safety in that rumination of being shut off, quick but not before the chorus does away with that notion by puncturing a rip in the fabric – a possible escape from it.

Mischa And The Bear have forthcoming debut EP due later this summer.

“‘Get Away’ is about being in a room where all the doors are locked, trying to fight the feeling of being trapped and forge a new path. The verses are dreamlike and foggy, the choruses visceral and intense, like a dialogue between two worlds.”
