New music: SOHN, Inc., Mowgli & Angel Olsen
Every Friday, four new music picks from music blogs worldwide are published as part of my Day & Night pages. Follow Day & Night on Twitter or Facebook. The magazine is out today in print with every copy of the Irish Independent so pick it up to see my full internet-heavy section as well as the rest of the mag.
S O H N
Vienna-born London producer’s gentle and hazy electronic and vocal compositions went wild on music blogs in the last week. Much of the praise is centered on the click-clacking enterprising new EP track The Wheel.
Inc.
Snapped up by label 4AD, the music of LA brother duo Andrew & Daniel Aged fits into R&B’s current indie expansion (via the likes of The Weeknd, How To Dress Well and Miguel) as a mode of musical expression. A three-track EP is out now and a debut is coming in 2013.
Angel Olsen
A singular folk artist with connections to Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Olsen’s strikingly voice goes from hushed to operatic and is matched with idiosyncratic and memorable lyrics on her full-length album Half Way Home.
Mowgli
As recommended by Irish music bloggers Harmless Noise and Soundblob, these Irish rap brothers draw comparisons to Buck 65 with a poetic rapping style and bluesy lo-fi samples.
