New Albums

Lael Neale – Altogether Stranger

LA-based Virginia artist’s latest album on Sub Pop covers reverbed retro garage rock, motorik Beach House-esque dream pop, psych, tape loops Mellotron and Omnichord ballads anchored by Neal’s wavy high register.

Neal plays Dublin on May 10th.

Låpsley – I’M A HURRICANE I’M A WOMAN IN LOVE

Holly Låpsley Fletcher’s fourth studio album is her first as an entirely independent artist and sees Fletcher moving more into the indie-pop space than previous releases.

Born from a period of personal upheaval and inspired by themes of heartache and growth, the Southport hailing singer, songwriter and producer uses the 11 track album as a means to process the pain, confusion and unrest that this period brought.

James Krivchenia – Performing Belief

The fourth solo album of producer, Big Thief drummer, and vibrant polymath James Krivchenia, and his first with Planet Mu. Following the hyperactive Blood Karaoke (2022, Reading Group), Performing Belief builds rhythmic thickets from gathered sounds interwoven with synths, drum machines and other samples.

Having built these rhythmic nests, Krivchenia then called on two contemporary mages of the low end: electric bassist and fellow Angeleno Sam Wilkes (Wilkes/Gendel) and double bassist/multi-instrumentalist from Krivchenia’s native Chicago, Joshua Abrams (Natural Information Society).

NewDad – Safe EP

The London-based Galway band have put out their first release since their debut album Madra and the departure of bassist Cara Joshi.

It’s also the first from the band since singer Julie Dawson released the album Bottom Of The Pool, which was produced by Space Dimension Controller.

The four-track EP demonstrates a more urgent take on the band’s dreamy shoegaze alt-rock music, with production handled by the 26-year-old Sam Breathwick, aka Shrink, who is also joining the band live playing lead guitar and synths.

Blondshell – If You Asked For A Picture

Blondshell’s second album expands on the visceral songwriting and wit that made her 2023 self-titled debut a critical sensation. Its title inspired by a Mary Oliver poem, Sabrina Teitelbaum explores themes of control, relationships, and self-reflection, gesturing towards an even deeper autobiographical story. Reunited with producer Yves Rothman, she embraces a confident sonic range, blending colossal hooks, layered textures, and bold, traditionally masculine aesthetics ripped from Queens of the Stone Age and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Blondshell plays Dublin on September 2nd.

Faoi Thalamh Records – Vol. 3: Fáschoill

Fáschoill (noun): continuous undergrowth, a joining of roots.]

Faoi Thalamh Records third in the series of their Irish underground electronic music series. h some of the most exciting artists currently operating in Éire and beyond.

Features tracks from E The Artist, Lighght, Crispy Jason, Breen, Belacqua and more.

Jenny Hval – Iris Silver Mist

Norwegian musician, artist and novelist Jenny Hval has named her new album after a fragrance made by the nose Maurice Roucel for the French perfume house Serge Lutens. It’s described as smelling more like steel than silver. It is cold and prickly, soft and shimmering, like stepping outside on an early, misty morning, your body still warm from sleep. A perfume, with its heart notes and scented accords, shares its language with music. Both travel through air, simultaneously invisible and distinct.

Lil Skag – Type Shite

Enniscorthy Flames Joyce rapper is just a regular young lad making a pilgrimage to Kimmage and shouting out velcro shoes on his new 7-track release.

PBR Streetgang – KURTZ 06
