New music: GEMS, Braids, Summer Camp & Franz Ferdinand/Todd Terje collaboration
The best new music/artist picks of the last week. As published in today’s Day & Night Magazine. Follow Day & Night on Twitter and Facebook.
GEMS
Early ’90s indie euphoria is one way to describe the sound of this Washington DC band’s standout new single ‘Sinking Stone’. Its shimmering delayed sweeps conjure up the best of indie power ballads of times past.
Franz Ferdinand + Todd Terje are The North Sea
In a surprise collaboration, indie-rockers Franz Ferdinand and Nordic disco master Todd Terje have melded both their styles together on two new tracks of extended indie-disco dance. The original versions of the songs will feature on Franz Ferdinand’s new album Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action.
Braids
If you like sprawling and loose seven minute jams that feature woozy harmonics, kaleidoscopic guitars and heavenly vocals, you’ll love ‘In Kind’, the new track from the Canadians.
Summer Camp
Breezy indie-disco pop to forget your worries to is the aim of UK duo Elizabeth Sankey and Jeremy Warmsley’s new single ‘Fresh’. It’s the first taken from the self-titled second album due in September.
