New Albums
The Weather Station – Humanhood
The Weather Station returns with a new album on Fat Possum following up 2021’s critically acclaimed Ignorance, and its companion piece, How is it That I Should Look at the Stars.
In the Autumn of 2023, Tamara Lindeman gathered six musicians at Canterbury Music Company, where she had recorded those previous records.
Much of Humanhood is a document of what it means to be lost, to be hamstrung by confusion, unease, and grief for a period so long you begin to wonder if there is an end.
Mac Miller – Balloonerism
The seventh studio album by the American rapper, his second posthumous album since his death in September 2018.
Miller recorded the album between 2013 and 2014, around the time his mixtape Faces was released.
The album was today exactly five years apart from the release of his beautiful posthumous album Circles.
It features guest appearances by his alter ego Delusional Thomas and SZA.
Delivery – Force Majeure
Melbourne rock’n’roll five-piece release their second album.
The Garage-punk songs recall the likes of Parquet Courts or early Modern Lovers.
The band have previously released ‘Digging The Hole’, ‘Only A Fool’, ‘Operating At A Loss’ and ‘The New Alphabet’ from the album.
Billy Nomates – Mary & The Hyenas
Leicester singer-songwriter Billy No Mates has written an original soundtrack for Mary and the Hyenas, a new play exploring the life of the 18th century feminist. Mary Wollstonecraft
The album is out today on Invada Records (Beak>, Benefits)
jasmine.4.t – You Are The Morning
Manchester singer-songwriter jasmine.4.t’s debut album on Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records is a celebration of the artist’s trans journey.
The album was produced by Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus.
It’s an indie rock songwriter-type record.
Svhymns – 3threestripeFADElikeSPEAKERboxx
Irish experimental producer Cian Perdisatt releases the second of a two-parter of albums following December’s @@places_w//HEADPHONES:ON.
As is his M.O, the album features laidback vocals over electronic arrangements and rap-inspired beats, with nods to cloud rap, industrial and noise, all wrapped up in discombobulating production.
Tessa Rose Jackson – A Mirror Sometimes EP
London-based indie artist, songwriter, and composer’s new EP is her first under her own name in six years (usually titled Someone).
Each song is a collaboration with another singer or artists including Cork’s Caoilian Sherlock, Franklin Mansion, The Shells, Noon Garden and more.
“A Mirror Sometimes” is a passion project that coloured my year magical. It started out from a position of simply wanting to get together and write with a number of songwriters I admire, to shake my own creativity up. To play around and see what would happen when our processes mixed. But after the first two sessions, I just couldn’t stop. The power of collaboration is awe-inspiring, it truly does bring out the music-obsessed child in me and helps me bypass all of the other, much less important stuff that get in my head.”
The Swedish Railway Orchestra – Besides
Dublin-based musician and producer Rob Smith returns under his Swedish Railway Orchestra guise with an album titled Besides: B-sides and Rarities.
