Raidió Rí-Rá’s accelerator scheme for Irish language musicians is open until Friday

The Irish language station Raidió Rí-Rá has set up a new accelerator scheme for Irish language bands and artists in partnership with Creative Ireland and Dublin City Council.

Glór Ár Linne (‘Voice of Our Generation’) aims at encouraging a new generation of Irish language music artists through three months of workshops with industry professionals – in areas of songwriting, recording, live production, promotion and marketing – as well as a collaborative creative hub for all musicians involved.

Bands and musicians will then be given the opportunity to showcase their music in front of live audiences at festivals and exclusive gigs, including Féile na Gealaí and Electric Picnic, with the hopes of building on the momentum Irish language music and culture has gained in the past few years thanks to the likes of Kneecap and RÓIS most recently.

The programme was launched with performances in Dublin establishments that are bilingual and subscribed to the Baile Átha Cliath le Gaeilge scheme – with James Shannon brough Irish language rap performing in Troy’s Family Butchers on Moore Street and Aisling Moran singing in the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland greenhouse in Glasnevin.

Cara Dunne, formerly of Mongoose will be coordinating the mentorship element of the scheme:
“The talent already exists, we want to offer direction and advice to artists who are serious about honing their craft, learning how to engage with the music industry, and bringing their music to audiences across the Irish festival circuit and international stages.”

“there’s a lot of talk about a ‘language revival’ lately, but it’s more than that, it’s a cultural revolution and people are realising they can live their lives as Gaeilge. Music, culture and the arts play a huge role in this and we want to make sure that the next Kneecap, RÓIS or Huartan are being nurtured and given guidance to break into the music industry. The language isn’t a fad or a trend, and bands and musicians like IMLÉ, Cian Mac Cárthaigh and James Shannon prove that the language is not a barrier but a doorway when it comes to making it as a professional musician.”
