Sam Amidon for Irish tour
American folk singer and musician Sam Amidon has announced an Irish tour this May around Ireland.
Sam is one of my favourite folk artists, originally from Vermont, who has released seven solo albums on labels like Bedroom Community and Nonesuch. Sam often plays solo with banjo, guitar and fiddle, and does creative reworkings of traditional American, hymns and work songs and Irish/ UK traditional songs too.
For his Irish tour, Sam will be joined by his bandmate Chris Vatalaro.
Sam Amidon’s Irish dates are:
May 10th – The Grand Social, Dublin (support from Inni-K)
May 11th – DeBarras Folk Club, Clonakilty, West Cork
May 12th – An Taibhdhearc, Galway (presented by The Black Gate) – (support from North American old-time duo Tatiana Hargreaves and Allison De Groot / Colin Tierney)
May 13th – The Duncairn, Belfast (support from David C Clements)
Tickets are on sale now at samamidon.com
Amidon has collaborated with composer Nico Muhly, guitarist Bill Frisell, and percussionist Milford Graves, and guested with the likes of Jacob Collier, Emmylou Harris, Glen Hansard, Tune-Yards, John Prine, Jason Moran, and Amidon’s wife, Beth Orton. He has toured as a support act for Bon Iver, Sharon Van Etten, The National, and Wilco, among others.
Amidon has also appeared internationally as a soloist performing with ensembles such as the Kronos Quartet, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Crash Ensemble, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Britten Sinfonia. In 2015, he curated and hosted a tribute to Pete Seeger at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.
arist Bill Frisell, and legendary percussionist Milford Graves.
