Sean Meehan has featured on Nialler9 before for his work with his rap project Fynch but Sean has a side hustle that has another audience waiting for the next release.
Sean is responsible for the match day graphics for League Of Ireland club St. Patrick’s Athletic all of which this SEASON have been channelling classic Irish and international album covers.

Some of the covers are obvious in the case of well-known riffs on albums from Beastie Boys (Ill Communication), Pulp (A Different Class) and today’s one – Fontaines D.C. (Dogrel).

Sean takes inspiration from the place that the opposing team is coming from, which has lead to the dodgy graphic for the match day versus Cork City which channelled the dated cover for Sultans Of Ping F.C.’s Casual Sex At The Cineplex album from 1993.
More esoteric takes on alternative albums from Gilla Band (Holding Hands With Jamie), Vince Staples (Summertime ’06), Elliott Smith (Figure 8).

I asked Sean about his work for the club, and you can see them all below.
What is your role in the club and how long have you been involved?
I’m on the media team, so I look after any and all of the graphics that go out on social media for the most part, alongside some of the branded bits that you might find around Richmond Park. Not sure what the role is specifically, I’ve put Graphic Design & Matchday Volunteer on LinkedIn so we’ll go with that!
How long have you been doing the artwork?
I’ve been involved for the last five years, since the summer of 2020. We had only played four games at the beginning of that season before the coronavirus shut the world down, so I was doing a few design bits on my laptop to kill time until football returned that summer. I reached out to the club to see if they needed a hand for the rest of the season, and I’m still here!
Any feedback of note you’ve got from them?
There’s a cohort of Pat’s fans that are seemingly fascinated by what album is going to be next as there isn’t really a rhyme or reason as to why certain albums are chosen, unless there’s a clear connection to the club we’re playing – like using The Undertones for Derry City and Fontaines D.C. for Bohs etc. I think my Sultans Of Ping FC graphic for our game against Cork City was derided in all quarters because I was true to the 1993 aesthetic of their album, but it had to be done!
