8. Lonelady – ‘Groove It Out’

The surprise return of Julia Campbell on Warp Records.

It has been over four years since Manchester artist Julia Campbell, aka Lonelady released her debut album Nerve Up on Warp Records which showcased the songwriter as a purveyor of jittering metallic guitar music with big 80s’ drums.

The sound was out of step then, and here, on the returning song from Lonelady, ‘Groove It Out’, not much has changed. The track has an Tom Tom Club / ESG funk rhythm to it with a refreshing sparseness to proceedings. Lonelady is an idiosyncratic artist who does walk her own line.

The single is out on Warp next week on vinyl / digital.
