Young & Sick – ‘Heartache Fetish’
One of the first bands I saw at my annual pilgrimage to Austin, Texas for the SXSW Festival (top 15 bands post here), were LA’s Young & Sick. You might know the main man Nick as the vocalist on Mmoths’ ‘For Her’ (he’s also an illustrator) but live, their music is a more Alt R&B-style affair with emphasis on harmony-lead crooning matched to some colourful yet delicate arrangements.
I was impressed by Nick and his three-piece band’s sound but I felt they lacked a big song to draw people in overall. ‘Heartache Fetish’ was probably the most memorable song of the night. Their debut LP is out next week on Harvest Records.
