1.

Anish Kumar

Sadhana

As heard at recent Four Tet live sets, Anish Kumar’s ‘Sadhana’ comes from a compilation called Bollywood Super Hits! As the album title suggests, this is a Bollywood-inspired track brimming with percussive sparkle and synth energy.

Speaking of himself, This Four Tet remix of Chloe Robinson also dropped last week.

2.

ARXX, Pillow Queens

Call Me Crazy

A new version of alt-rock duo Arxx’s ‘Call Me Crazy’ featuring their touring buddies Pillow Queens.

“‘Call Me Crazy’ is a happy sad ballad about mental health that will pull at your heartstrings and get you dancing all at the same time. It feels like the perfect song to team up with Pillow Queens on, they’re great friends of ours and when you’re struggling with mental health friends make everything better. Their voices and instrumentation on the track adds a new dimension to the song, helping it to evolve into a really special moment of shared experiences that make it feel like a conversation with your best friend.”

Arxx are supporting PQs on tour at the moment:
7 October – Dolans, Limerick
8 October – Cyprus Avenue, Cork
14 October – The Empire, Belfast
15 October – Róisin Dubh, Galway
16 October – Róisin Dubh, Galway
20 October – Set Theatre, Kilkenny

3.

Daphni

Take Two

Dan Snaith released his second album as Daphni today, and this one has a ’90s Avalanches meets Daft Punk vibe to it.

4.

Priya Ragu

Adalam Va!

A “Raguwavy” banger from the Sri Lankan Swiss artist who keeps dropping great bombastic banga pop tracks like this.

5.

Hozier

Swan Over Leda

I did not expect Enya vibes for the first song from the returning Wicklow artist Hozier.

‘Swan Upon Leda’ is a fine acoustic return for the big man, and is a song intended in solidarity for those women affected by the reversal of abortion rights in the US in particular.

It’s a song about women’s rights that Hozier says:

Egyptian journalist and author Mona Eltahawy once referred to the global systems that control and endanger women as the world’s “oldest form of occupation.” Ever since hearing her speak in Dublin, I wanted to explore that thought in a piece.

6.

Skinner

Gaslighter

Aaron Corcoran wraps up recent singles into the Commander Trainwreck EP package on Faction Records, ahead of a show at Ireland Music Week tonight.

‘Gaslighter’ is the EP’s final song, a snake of a track about a snake, a song about domestic abuse and coercion.

7.

Gilla Band

I Was Away

Gilla Band’s third record Most Normal (out today) is actually weirder than you might expect. Noiser, murkier, it hangs it hat on songs like ‘I Was Away’ and then drops song structure for some industrial noise and noise passages.

8.

Moving Still

Kunafa King

It’s a wavy synth banger from Dubliner Moving Still, who keeps lighting that Arabic music torch so well. ‘Kunafa King’ is named after a dessert and it’s from a new EP on CWPT/Cooking With Palms Trax.

9.

Flohio

SPF

British-Nigerian rap artist Flohio just released a debut album today, and ‘SPF’ is a rap tune with swing from Out of Heart.

10.

The Orielles

Room

Gristly disco indie pop from English band The Orielles who have a new album Tableau on Heavenly Recordings out today.
