1.

Travy

EUROSTAR (with Reggie, Yvnnis)

Travy fka Travis takes charge in his solo guise on the new mixtape Spooky.

Travis & Elzzz made headlines last year who had the first ever Irish rap album at #1 in the Irish album charts.

Spooky is full of world-building drill music that reaches for the atmospheric cinematic of Travis Scott’s Astroworld. Producer Liam Harris is at the helm once more as on Doghouse, and ‘Eurostar’ is a continental straddling rap track that features Gliders cohort Reggie and Parisian rapper Yvnnis

2.

Pebbledash

Slowly Slowly

Six-piece alternative rock band Pebbledash’s final single from their upcoming Four Portraits of the Same Ugly House EP (January 31st) brandishes dark guitar tones and an eerie atmosphere to a shoegaze crescendo.

“Slowly slowly is a song about the desire to belong, be seen, and in many ways the selfishness of needing recognition….. recorded in complete darkness in an attempt to capture that feeling of isolation and translate it to the music Slowly Slowly jumps between catharsis and ;onging, it is our statement of the ‘beautiful ugly’ the things you want but know you shouldn’t and the heartbreak when things don’t happen like how you dream.”

Catch them at the Next Big Thing in Dublin next week.

Upcoming tour dates:

Jan 22nd – The Next Big Thing Festival, Workman’s Club, Dublin
January 29th – The Social, London (w/ So Young)
Feb 9th – The Hope & Ruin, Brighton
Feb 10th – The Elephants Head, London
Mar 28th – Dolans, Limerick (Howlers Support)
Mar 29th – Whelan’s, Dublin (Howlers Support)
Mar 30th – Ulster Sport’s Club, Belfast (Howlers Support)

3.

Neosupervital

Factory Presets

The return of Tim O’Donovan to his electro-synth pop project Neosupervital (Tim was making music in the genre before electro-pop was cool again).

When not drumming with Keeley and Bell X1 (or his previous duo of Buffalo Woman), Tim has made a third Neosupervital album called Transporter out this year.

‘Factory Presets’ is a slower number from what you might expect, indicative of a change of mindset.

“I suppose the overall theme of the song is that you can change destructive patterns of behaviour and thinking if you put your mind to it. It was one of the first songs I wrote for the new album so the lyrics were me noting that it was a new beginning, and not to worry too much about the passing of time. They were me noting that my brain workings had changed somewhat since I last sat down to write a tune, a bit more self-awareness and a lot less ego hopefully. It’s one of the slowest tunes I’ve written. I deliberately brought the pace down a notch or two on this album, and this song in particular, for a more spacious, unhurried feel.”

4.

SX2

Soul For Sale

Scott and Clive Sullivan aka SX2 are the Waterford dancefloor spinners who recently shared some of our favourites with us.

Their latest single is a soul-disco sampling wonder with Caribou feels on the Disco Halal label.

5.

Tayne

Scars

Bringing a sludgy metal feel to proceedings, London-based Dublin noise-rock industrialists Tayne are the closest Ireland has to the band HEALTH.

‘Scars’ is the band’s latest single, released ahead of their debut album Love on January 31st.

6.

Cordless

When I Fall Asleep

Cordless’ first single featured on Nialler9, and the Youghal duo keep up their vibe of doing things a little differently on their second single with the minimal trip-hop dub of ‘When I Fall Asleep’.
