7 new Irish songs you should hear this week
This is only a selection of new music – dig into more or follow the Spotify playlists.
1.
Arad – The Glimpse
Dara Smith is one half of Lakker but his latest project Arad takes a lighter electronic tone. An entire EP is now out called The Glimpse and the title track is a good indicator of where Smith is at, with a glitchy Actress-esque synth electronic composition. The EP overall digs deeper in tone and beat than that, sometimes approaching industrial yet it remains bright.
2.
Meltybrains? – Sensivity
This is the second release of a promised 12 this year from Meltybrains? as a follow on from ‘Horizon’. Here they show off their sensitive side as the name suggests with the stripped back, soul-reaching and melodious ‘Sensitivity’.
3.
Housewife – Deep Me
‘Deep Me’ is the debut single from multi-instrumentalist Oisín Tarrant or Housewife from his self-titled debut album which is out on May 4th. The first single has an 80s psychedelic-pop sound with varying vocals pitches.
4.
Sea Pinks – Run & Run
‘Run & Run’ is Belfast guitar pop group Sea Pinks first release as a duo following the departure of Steven Henry. The track presents an upbeat and joyous depiction of spring with eclectic jazzy elements intertwined throughout.
5.
Bobby Basil – Alright
Dubin rapper Bobby Basil has been establishing a name for himself as a solo artist (his last track with Major Graves is fire) in the current Irish hip-hop for the past two years following his departure from Dah Jevu. His latest release ‘Alright’ is layered with laid back hypnotic textures and deep low end.

6.
Messyng – Bodies
Messyng are a new Cork-based group made up by Kerry natives Donagh Sugrue, Danny O’Shea and JJ Lee. ‘Bodies’ is a follow-on single from their debut EP Erotic Fiction which came out earlier this year. The song is a slow burning atmospheric indie-electro track with infectiously soothing qualities.
7.
Owen Denvir – Human Touch
Folk-pop singer-songwriter Owen Denvir‘s new single Human Touch is layered with multiple feel-good elements of atmospheric electric guitar, light synth sounds and a harmonious vocal melody.
