Premiere: The Redneck Manifesto – Black Apple

I’m delighted to be debuting this one. ‘Black Apple’ is the opening track from The Redneck Manifesto’s new album Friendship, their first proper release since the Seven Stabs EP in four years and their first album in six since I Am Brazil in 2004.

The ten tracks on Friendship were recorded last summer in Black Box Studios in France with Dave Odlum. The band describe the result as “a psychedelic kraut-rock band jamming with The Meters”.

Friendship will be released through The Richter Collective on the March 26th on CD digipak, gatefold vinyl and digital with an M&E-designed sleeve. There is a launch gig on the 27th of March in Tripod. The above image is of a large 5 kilo crystal with three dimensional scans of the band members burnt in to it with a laser (click to enlarge). Apparently, they had it done in Malmo. Epic work lads.

Here’s ‘Black Apple’, the monster of an opener:

  1. Excellent stuff! I really hope I make Tripod, I saw them in Tralee in 2006(?) and it was a formative experience, truly stunning performance. Looking fowared to the album big time.

  2. hey just to clairify we originally were gonna do it in ilac centre but logistics forced us to get it done in malmo.. first neil went into thomas gear in the ilac to get his scan, then matty and me went in but the ‘laser crystal guy’ – what a job! only does mondays, wednesdays and fridays and matty had to head back to malmo so we ended up using the swedish equivalent of thomas gear to do the rest..

matty has been talking about that idea for years so it’s nice that it finally got done

  3. i like the fact that it didnt come from the ilac centre because of circumstances…but i don’t like that its in the original blurb saying it came from malmo; in a way trying to big up a process…that can be done in the ilac centre.. wahay for laser sintering! Really who gives a shit because the band are fucking complete with neils on synths!

  4. In Niall’s defense you can get less impressive 3D glass yokes done in the the Ilac and Jervis centres, as well as really smart gold etchings of dead or imprisioned relatives to wear around your neck.

Black Apple is a top tune; an exciting taster of what’s to come. Bring it.

  5. Great track! So happy to finally hear new material from them, I’ve been waiting for the new fullength for ages now! I’ll be able to fill this final month with this song, thank you very much.

    R.

ps. O, and please, return to Vera, Groningen…
