Midnight Blue is a new project from Irish producers Moving Still and Kobina, written together over a course of the year, as the name suggests perhaps, to capture the feeling in sound of a city at night – “the space before, between and after the club.”
The six-track EP, released today (and you should purchase it today as Bandcamp is waiving fees all May day) was originally set to be released on cassette but due to the global pandemic, it’s now coming to you digitally and all sales made via Bandcamp until June 1st will go to the homeless and housing charity Peter McVerry Trust.
The tracks are a gorgeous melding of Kobina’s textured ambience and Moving Still’s distinct melodic and rhythmic tendencies. It’s a calming headphones listen in a troubled isolating time. Go for a solo late night walk with it this evening. My favourite track is probably ‘Yugen’.
The music echoes the deep blue 4:00am rise of Dublin city, as the first murmuration of sunlight starts to dilute the black of night time and give way to the morning after.
