Arcade Fire are coming back to Dublin to perform Funeral in full at Malahide Castle this summer.
The Canadian rock band are bringing Echo & The Bunnymen to Dublin for an outdoor show this summer on Sunday July 7th.
The band had a tumultuous year in 2022 as it frontman Win Butler was accused of sexual misconduct by multiple people in a Pitchfork article. That news broke just as Arcade Fire were in Dublin to start their tour, support act Feist later dropped off the tour and explained why in 2023 in an interview with the Irish Times.
Arcade Fire’s show in Ireland at Electric Picnic around the release of Funeral in 2005 became the stuff of legend so if you wanted a rug to sweep all those allegations all under, make that rug Funeral?
The Dublin gig with the band performing Funeral in full would have been a no-brainer for most to attend prior to 2022’s allegations, but many online fans have said they won’t go to see the band and be seen support such behaviour since the allegations were revealed.
On the flipside, as we’ve said before, cancel culture is a myth, or at least the number of people who would decide not to attend a show due to an artist’s behaviour in private seem to be in a minority, and likely, a lot of others won’t factor allegations against Butler in attending Arcade Fire shows, such as this one.
The band’s sixth album We was released in May 2022.
