Band of Blogs: Savages, Bebe Black, The Very Best, Blood Diamonds & Grimes
Every Friday, I pick out four new music picks from the best of the music blogs as part of my Day & Night digital section. Follow Day & Night on Twitter or Facebook. The magazine is out today in print with every copy of the Irish Independent. My picks for the this week are…
Savages
A dark and stormy gothic English band currently wetting the pants of post-punk aficionados, this all-girl four-piece’s debut single Husbands howls with heritage and a motorik bass line.
Bebe Black
Having appeared on a new track by dubstep master Benga, singer Bebe Black shows up solo to impress us with her La Roux-esque vocal tones. Yet Black is no electro singer for hire, her music is rich with soul, folk and R&B textures.
Blood Diamonds feat. Grimes
LA producer Blood Diamonds met Grimes when he lived in Canada and the duo have hooked up for Phone Sex. Relax, it’s just the title of a song which goes heavy on steel drums and saccharine sweet melodies.
The Very Best
Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya and London production duo Radioclit team up once again for more African sunshine anthems. Their newest track Kondaine, a hands in the air global dance song also features the talents of Nigerian vocalist Seye and a video shot in Kenya.
