Claire Laffut
Mojo
The Paris-based Belgian model and singer Claire Laffut lights up the room with a French chanson-inspired big playful pop song. Not only is the song one for your playlists, it’s a starting point for a showcase of Laffut’s other creative outlets – a brilliant choreographed video and a painting created in response to the song, both by the artist herself.
16.
Mountain Man
Rang Tang Ring Toon
Fans of the electro-pop duo Sylvan Esso (and they are bountiful in Ireland) will be interested to know that singer Amelia Meath recently reunited with her band of sisters Mountain Man for a new album of folky a capella songs called Magic Ship, their first in eight years. ‘Rang Tang Ring Toon’ sounds like the call of the autumn after a busy summer season.
17.
Maribou State
Kingdoms
From Maribou State’s hugely enjoyable album Kingdoms, the title song featuring North Downs on vocals draws on the same worldly template as Bonobo, with gorgeous production, muted guitars synths, handclaps and strings.
18.
Fia Moon
Take
This isn’t the first single release from Fia Moon to catch our imaginations this year. The artist has been making a strong push toward acclaim and ‘Take’ is bound to only help keep pushing toward that direction. An EDM pop fusion, Moon teamed up with producer Slang to give us this new banger. We’re certain there are plenty more exciting things to come from the Irish artist.
19.
Villagers
Ada
Written about English mathematician Ada Lovelace, this sprawling track showcases the best qualities about new album The Art Of Pretending To Swim as a whole. O’Brien’s wistful lyricism, top-notch production and the clever blend of acoustic and electronic aesthetics. An extended version of this song available on the deluxe version features contributions from John Grant, Lisa Hannigan, Saint Sister, Maria Somerville, Cian Nugent, Stephen James Smith and more.
20.
Wastefellow
Infinity Gaze
Wastefellow, the moniker of rising Dublin based artist and producer Diolmhain Ingram Roche, is no stranger to our recommendation lists. He first came to our attention two years ago with his single ‘Wonder‘ and has been producing music of high calibre ever since. ‘Infinity Gaze’ is a jittery, synth laden track complete with his signature trippy drum rhythms and automated vocals lines. The song is taken from his anticipated new EP Post Human Potential out this week, which this video is also a part of.
21.
Lone
Oedo 808
Lone is back releasing his series of Ambivert Tools, Volume Four of which is released 12th October 2018 via R&S Records.’Oedo 808′ possibly takes its title from a Japanese video game and keeps Lone’s bar high for this ability to create banging dynamic electronic music.
22.
Mutual Benefit
Come To Pass
Melancholy folk music from New York-based recording artist Jordan Lee, better known as Mutual Benefit. Taken from his newest LP Thunder Follows The Light ‘Come To Pass’ is warm, haunting and heartbreakingly beautiful.
23.
LOR
Lunar Orbit Rendezvous
“Lunar orbit rendezvous is a key concept for efficiently landing humans on the Moon and returning them to Earth. LOR’s basic premise was to fire an assembly of three spacecraft into Earth orbit on top of a single powerful rocket.” LOR is also the Belfast artist who has a full-length album out noq loosely based on NASA missions. ‘Lunar Orbit Rendezvous’ is a celestial Kraftwerk-esque dance track that bodes well for such a concept. To the moon and back!
24.
Maverick Sabre
Drifting
Maverick Sabre has returned this week with the release of ‘Drifting’. The producer and singer has crafted a soulful alternative ballad, completed by the artist’s signature resonate vocal performance. Much credit is due to the production work on the track, with an infectious bassline and striking drum patterns acting as the song’s backbone.
25.
Helen
Only One
A fresh-faced newbie to the our list, Helen is a Bucharest-based artist whose very melodic music blends trap rhythms with vaporwave synth tones. The result is ‘Only One’, a neon pop-trap tune. The song builds slowly only to refrain from ever dropping in a traditional sense. Instead, listeners are left with the artist’s powerful vocal refrain, looping into the fade out.
