About Bleech 9:3
Bleech 9:3 began when songwriters and guitarists Barry Quinlan and Sam Duffy met at a 12-step recovery programme in their early twenties, after years of living parallel lives gigging around Dublin while each dealing separately with addiction. Barry became Sam’s sponsor, and the pair soon found themselves writing together in secret, building the foundations of the band out of that shared recovery. Completed by James Quinlan (bass) and Luke O’Neill (drums), the four-piece relocated together to London in 2024 and 2025, finding community with the city’s Irish diaspora and a creative home around post-punk venue The Windmill in Brixton.
Debut single ‘Ceiling’, written about the loss of a friend from Barry’s recovery journey, set the tone for a sound that moves between sharp melody and heavy distortion, pulling from Radiohead, Deftones and Nirvana alongside more contemporary touchstones like Fontaines D.C. and Sleep Token. Breakthrough single ‘Jacky’, an unflinching look at addiction’s destructive pull, arrived with a video inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal, part of a wider visual language the band draw from arthouse cinema, including David Lynch, Paris, Texas and Blade Runner.
Since opening for Keo and Shame in 2025 and building a word-of-mouth following through a string of sold-out headline shows, including a three-night residency at London’s Blue Basement, Bleech 9:3 have become one of the most talked-about new bands around, regulars on BBC Radio 1 and tipped widely as a band to watch going into 2027. Their autumn headline tour, including London’s Electric Ballroom, is already sold out.
