The announcement follows a big year for Kennedy. His third studio album, The Weight of the Woods, went to number one in the UK and Ireland, making him the first Irish solo artist to top the UK chart with his first three studio albums. It was followed by arena tours of the UK and Europe, two sold-out nights at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and a full North American tour that’s still under way.
The album was largely written and recorded in a studio down the road from his home in rural Ireland with close collaborator Gabe Simon, whose credits include Noah Kahan and Lana Del Rey, with a spell in Nashville too. Kennedy calls it “a beautiful homegrown thing with Irish instruments and an Irish story”. An extended edition is out now, adding live favourite ‘Stockholm’ alongside acoustic versions of ‘Turnstile’ and ‘Funeral’.
