Dublin DJ and music man Hugh Scully has passed away

I’m really sorry to hear of the passing of Dubliner Hugh Scully, who was involved in many music pies in Dublin over the years, who has died of a short battle with cancer.

I’m sure I don’t know half of what Hugh was involved in but what I do know is Scully was most recently director of both Dublin Vinyl, and The Record Hub and before that was a DJ and promoter in Spirit, The Kitchen and POD in the late ’90s, worked on the Red Bull Music Academy in the early 2000s, broadcast on Power FM, presented and produced on Spin 1038, did music PR and youth marketing and consulted on Heineken Green Spheres and co-produced ran the Interlude Festival in the RHA in 2016 where he also ran Coppa Cafe, among many other things.

Hugh loved house music, always had a big smile for you when he greeted you and will be sorely missed. His energy and enthusiasm was infectious. A Dublin music legend gone.

Friends and colleagues have been posting about his passing today.

Condolences to Hugh’s family and friends.

RIP Hugh.

  1. Like Tonie, my memories of Hugh are closely linked to Sunday nights with him and Mackin and Blue with Shay. As someone who arrived in Dublin knowing nobody and nothing outside of music, it was a pleasure to meet the always warm and welcoming Hugh. He was a kindred spirit when it came to new tunes, but I also admired his gumption, his drive to better himself and to strive to put on quality
nights. This might sound trite or superficial but Hugh was always so well turned out and effortlessly affable. Scott Macnaughton passed far too early and this is a similar huge shock. Rest in peace (and I’m sure he’ll have the after-hours session with St Peter set up immaculately) – Pat Mac Mellow
